friday’s question

Somehow I continually manage to have no idea what is going on “out there”. I am always the last person to find out about something and the last person to join the new thing. I am definitely not on the cutting edge of anything ever. Is it because I don’t have good connections? I don’t know where to find stuff or don’t go looking? I don’t particularly care? Not sure. I do know that I don’t like to be doing what everyone else is doing. If something becomes popular, I’ll drop it like a hot potato. If it already is popular, I will avoid it. Even if it’s something I find interesting.

That being said, I have no idea what is behind the “hey girl” Handmade Ryan Gosling thingies. I would have never come across it myself, but I ended up running into it on two separate occasions. It just so happened that I was at a Stitch ‘n’ Bitch (something else I rarely do) and one of the ladies mentioned reading one that she really enjoyed. “I love it when you knit in the car on the way to my mom’s house.” Ok. Well, later I was browsing one of Erin’s pinterest boards and she had another one posted there. “Your wedding pinterest board is weirding me out.” From there I ended up clicking through to the original tumblr page where there are tons of these things! And they are so funny! I had to read them out loud to Rich because so many sounded just like something I would say/complain about. Now I want to submit one myself.

Oh, internet.

Question: Are you the type who likes to be in the middle of everything? How do you keep  up with trends? Do you prefer to be on the fringes? What makes something appealing to you?

I have never heard of the Handmade Ryan Gosling things either, so I decided to take a look. Well, I totally just got busted at work for laughing at them. Just thought you should know. 🙂

hahahahaaa! Aren’t they totally hilarious and weird? Really, it makes me feel better about myself because now I know that someone else out there is just as insecure as me. Oh wait. Of course they are! We’re women!

Omg, I looked at some more. I’m not crafty, but I know enough people that are so I think I can still appreciate them. And of course the photos of Ryan Gosling don’t hurt!

I’m not sure about the whole Ryan Gosling thing either–but I do think several of them are hilarious! It’s weird though, okay, the crafty community has memes like the Ryan Gosling thing, but my boyfriend and brothers and pretty much all the guys I know know ALL these other memes and are always talking about them. I learn most of these things from them. Here are some funny meme examples:
    Forever alone: http://foreveralonecomic.com/
    Rage guy: http://memeblender.com/memes/rage-guy-meme/
    Socially awkward penguin: http://memeblender.com/memes/socially-awkward-penguin-meme/
    First world problems: http://memeblender.com/memes/first-world-problems-meme/

And these things (and more) are part of our daily conversations. I’m not really sure if I should be telling you that.

Talk about out of the loop, I didn’t even know what a “meme” was for most of forever. How do you pronounce it? Is it mee-mee or meem? What does it mean? Where did it come from? waah!

I’m definitely going to check those links out later. ;D

http://memegenerator.net/ will take care of all your internet meme needs and you can make some too. I’m particularly fond of Joseph Ducreux myself – http://memegenerator.net/Joseph-Ducreux

As far as trends go, my participation in them varies. I either can’t care less or it’s completely awesome. Just depends.
